Home > Moving Tips > Moving Your Computer
Your computer represents a sizable investment, regardless of how it is used. Make sure you have a record of the exact cost of your computer before you select a protection plan from Smith Dray Line. Your moving company is best qualified to properly pack your computer, but if you choose to handle this yourself, it should be placed in its original carton and packing material, if possible. If not, use a sturdy box and surround your computer with crumpled, unprinted newsprint or bubble wrap. The floppy disks that contain your programming and stored data should be moved with you. Disks are sensitive to heat and cold and warping which can occur inside a van. As a precaution, you might want to duplicate any important files onto backup disks. If you have a laser printer, be sure to remove the toner and any ink cartridges…and carry the cartridges with you. Again, pack your printer in its original container, if possible. When you arrive at your new home, allow the computer to reach room temperature before attempting to use it. |
